It all started at the Big Sheep Tirau...
In 1994 The Big Sheep was created of corrugated iron to become an iconic building in Tirau. From this one building the spirit of Tirau was born with amazing buildings and sculptures colouring the town. When joined by the Dog information centre next door, the two buildings became a magnet to people passing through the town every day on their journeys. People from all over the world, curious to see what the Big sheep was all about, found a range of kiwi products to suit their travelling needs.
Expansion throughout New Zealand
In 2001 we opened our Mount Maunganui store. Originally named Nature’s Touch, the new store was an immediate success. Soon after, another store in Tirau was opened.
Whitianga store and Coromandel Town stores were opened towards the end of 2007 and Kerikeri opened in November 2009. Taupo opened in May 2010. Napier then followed in October 2011.

We carry an extensive range of quality travel clothing including the brands Icebreaker, Mc Donald knitwear, Vigilante, Columbia and our very own Wild Spirit N.Z.. Our focus is to provide quality clothing with a purely NZ flavour for your journey. We carry clothing for all seasons all year round. This is great if you are planning a trip overseas or have family or friends abroad.
New Zealand gifts for the journey
Our stores also carry a large range of NZ gifts including swamp kauri products, jewellery, bags, scarves and other accessories. Our emphasis is to carry primarily quality NZ designed and/ or NZ made products.
Save the Kiwi products
We also have in store a range of Save the Kiwi products. A percentage of the profit from these goes to the BNZ Save the Kiwi Fund. We feel this is an excellent cause to support and we will continue to support this and similar causes aimed toward the sustainability of our natural and unique heritage.
Supporting local communities
All our stores employ local people. We support local events and a variety of local community groups in each location. Our stores focus on becoming a positive and productive part of the local community.
